The Curtains

So I'll start with the curtains, since that's what everyone asked about the most. Here's the secret - they aren't curtains.

If you remember, a while back, I showed you this idea I found on a fabulous blog called Knight Moves:

I fell in love with the idea because I'd been struggling with curtains for this room. I just couldn't find the right print and color I wanted without paying a fortune for custom window treatments. I fell in love with it even more when I read that this awesome print was a duvet from Walmart, for only $29.99. Seriously, I couldn't get to Walmart.com fast enough and order one for myself.

When I got it, I opened it up and felt the fabric, expecting something cheap and thin, but it actually felt pretty good for the price.

So, once I finally got the walls and floors done, I opened up my duvet and stared at it for a while. I was scared to cut it, to do anything with it quite frankly. But I figured hey, if I mess it up, I can afford another one.

I started with the seams, ripping the top and bottom of the duvet apart, stitch by stitch. Then, I ironed the edges of the seams down, folded it in half and ironed a line down the middle, then cut it in half right on the line.

I purchased the clip rings and the curtain rods from Lowes. The rods were on sale for $4.50 each and I can't remember how much the rings were, but not much.

And there you have it. My very own window mistreatments, as The Nester would refer to them.

  2. GORGEOUS! I still can't believe that those fabulous curtains started out as a duvet from Wal-Mart, of all places. Now I'm wanting to decorate with orange in our house (though there is not a hint of orange anywhere in the home right now!).

  9. Thanks for that info! I purchased the exact same bedding from Amazon and then I am on RMS and I see the "curtains" that matched my new bedding! I just received my bedding and I am so happy that I am getting to see what it looks like on a bed right here! I have an espresso stained contemporary style bed so now I know that it will look great. I too thought it much better quality than I expected at that price. I love the curtains you made, but I am so not that talented to do something like that. Thx!!

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
