A Southern Accent

Just popping in quick to say hi and share a little something Walker and I had fun putting together last week to continue the spookification of things around here. Best part about this little piece is that everything except the black bug stickers came from the dollar store! I decided last night I could wait no longer. The Halloween box had to come down and we needed to sprinkle a little spooky dust around the house. I focused on the mantel, taking the existing, eclectic arrangement of knickknacks currently there, keeping some of it, and adding some fun items from around the house and my special Halloween box to kick-off the season around here. Here's a picture of the before, so you can see what I kept to create my spooky mantel scene: I kept the bronze bird up in front, the silhouette of Mike as a little boy, the black letter blocks (turned on their sides), the cream ceramic piece, the owl and the candle in the back. I added in some of my goodies from my Halloween box, some old books from the bookshelf, a little chest from the bedroom and some candles from the hall and came up with this! We finished decorating the house this weekend, finally visited the pumpkin patch and carved a cool jack-o-lantern mansion inspired by one in Martha Stewart's Halloween magazine. I did a similar thing with my mantel last year, but with a couple of little touches from the dollar store (glitter skull and spooky menu) and things around the house (small chest, old family pics, old golf trophy, silver teapot), my pumpkin people from HomeGoods (they have the best and cheapest Halloween decor) and some sticks from the yard - plus my little Happy Halloween hanging banner from last year - and we have our spooky setting, ready for trick-or-treaters!

I came across these great napkins online at BuyCostumes.com and thought they were too great not to share! Everyone loves a great beverage napkin and they are a cheap way to add a little something extra to even a simple gathering for drinks around any holiday!
