Southern Cooking in LA

Hollywood week may be over, but I have one more story to tell about a guy and his truck - a southern food truck, to be exact.

Matties

I've known Chris since Jr. high but I never knew he had a passion for cooking. I honestly hadn't seen him in years, but had heard updates here and there of his adventures in Hollywood from mutual friends. We recently reconnected via Facebook and I told him I'd be coming out to LA soon, so he offered to show me around and do the tourist thing. We had a fun night, ending up at a great little Italian place, and I finally got to hear about his cool new venture: Mattie's Southern Kitchen.

In LA (and here in NC too) one of the newest trends is food trucks. - kitchens on wheels, that pull up to the curb during lunch or dinner and serve fabulous, freshly cooked food. This one just happens to be the first southern food truck in LA - and it's getting rave reviews. (It was even featured as the truck of the week on Zagats a couple of weeks ago!)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to taste any of the fabulous friend chicken or shrimp and grits cooked up in the bright, retro turquoise truck, but if the photos and the attention Mattie's has been getting are any indication, then I really need to figure out how to mail fried chicken. Chris said he could always put a stamp on a piece and send it to me.

So, when in LA, check Mattie's location on Twitter, enjoy some great southern cooking and bring me back a piece.

  4. This weekend I saw a show on tv about LA's food trucks (maybe Sunday Morning on CBS???) and all of the food sounded delicious. Guess we must not have said trucks in ATL because it was news to me that they were so popular. Probably the food vendors in downtown Atlanta would be afraid of getting mugged or shot. Just sayin'.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
