Gone Fishing

I was supposed to be the boy in our family - everyone had predicted it as so - but out I popped, a frilly pink girl. My dad decided he'd teach me things that he'd teach a son if he had one, so I learned how to hit a golf ball, played t-ball (albeit, not very good) and I learned how to fish.

We used to spend hours at the ponds on my grandparent's farms fishing. When I'd get bored, I'd chase tiny frogs, catch crickets or pick daises to take home to my mom. My mother actually said that sometimes my dad would have to sneak out on Saturday mornings to go fishing without me knowing (so he could actually catch something without a little kid talking the whole time and scaring the fish away).

Most of the time, I'm a girly girl, but I still love to fish. My nephew asked for a new rod and reel for his birthday this year from my dad, so after we blew out the candles, we all went down to the pond and fished a little. My nephew said, "How you gonna get a fish off your hook if you catch one?", referring back to my girly-girlness, and I said, "You obviously don't know who you're talking to." When I finally did catch a fish, I impressed the heck outta him when I grabbed the fish in one hand and wiggled the hook out of the gills with another.

He ended up hooking the biggest catch of the day - a great ending to a fabulous birthday.

  1. Hello - this post reminded me of my own childhood. I am a girly-girl, too, but grew up on the Chesapeake Bay fishing and crabbing during the summers and ice skating on the creek during the winter.

I found your blog through BlogFrog and wanted to stop by an check it out! Your post with all the food was just wonderful, too. Made me hungry for my own small town.

So nice to discover your blog.

  3. Good for you! Fishing was always so much fun with my dad. Hubby is a hunter, not a fisherman really. We have an occasional float for trout, but I do miss sitting on a creek bank! Come share a slow cooker favorite for Crock Pot Wednesday whenever you get a chance.

    I'm proud of you. Yay!
No way. Can't touch worms or anything.
I love to ear fish, but if I kill one I can't eat it.
To me fish sticks don't have faces.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
