Just When Phillip Came Back!!!!

GUIDING LIGHT will broadcast its final episode on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. At the time of its final broadcast, the series will have spanned 72 years and more than 15,700 episodes on television and radio.
I grew up with the Bauer and the Lewis families! I celebrated all of my holidays with them! (Love the Bauer BBQ for July 4th!) It's like an old friend is leaving...I DVR it every day still!

  1. Aww! That just stinks. I DVR Days of Our Lives. My cousin and I do weekly re-caps for each other. :-)

  2. I'm like that with Days. I'm so scared that it will leave me one day!

I'm so sorry for your loss!

  3. I cried the first day of kindergarten. Not because I missed my mommy, & not because the kid next to me at lunch stole my chocolate milk. I cried because no one bothered to tell me that we wouldn't be watching Guiding Light & The Young & the Restless. I vowed to never go back. My mom had to tape both shows daily just so I could watch them when I got home! It's so sad! I am crossing my fingers that Y&R doesn't get axed--I think I'll die!

  4. I don't even watch this show and I'm kind of sad. A show on for so long. . .shouldn't you just get to stay?

  5. 72 years! Isn't that something??

  6. I was totally and completely addicted to this show when my kids were little. I agreed to name my youngest Josh because I'm still in love with Josh Lewis--hot guy who's my age! And I started decorating my house with lighthouses back before they got really popular as an homage to my favorite show--believe it or not, it used to be difficult to find pictures of lighthouses. Hard to imagine now. I thought that their casting director was a genius because those people really looked like they were related (Alan, Alexandria, and Philip in particular--it was almost freaky).

About 12 years ago, I went cold turkey and haven't watched soaps since. I will turn it on occasionally and see who's still on it, but I loved the days of Frank and Eleni, Mallett and Harley, Josh and Reva, Ross and Holly, Ed and Maureen, Vanessa and Billy, etc. so much.....well, now they've all moved on. I was going to blog about this tomorrow, since today is Josh's birthday and I didn't want to steal his spotlight!

But I am sad, even though I don't watch it anymore. It was truly an icon.

  7. Truly the end of an era. I have been watching General Hospital since 1982 and have recently found it to be so bad that I am thinking of stopping my daily DVR.

PS: ready when you are to talk blog headers!

  8. I knew exactly what you were talking about when I read your title.

I am so sad! I, too, grew up watching GL. It has & always will be my favorite TV show ever!

  9. Guiding Light was gateway TV for me -- my mom always watched it and I thought sitting down in the middle of the day to fold laundry, drink a Coke and watch Guiding Light was the most grownup and sophisticated thing you could possibly do.

  10. Sad to see a show with such a long history cancelled. Maybe if they left Josh and Reva together things would be different:)

  11. Oh no...I watch this show ever day! I was never so happy to see Bill and Lizzie finally reunited!

I can't believe it is ending. I'm so sad.

  12. what a run! When I came home from high school, my Mom would be watching "the guiding light", and I graduated high school in 1973, wow! What will Lisa and Bob do now? (are they still on?)

  13. I remember when Reba first got on the show and her sister worked in the brothel that looked like a scene out of a old Texas Western....

My grandma watched that show and every day after school I'd have to sit quietly until it was over!

  14. OMG! I had no idea! I too grew up watching this soap. (All the CBS soaps actually) Somewhere in time, I dwindled my list of soaps down to just As The World Turns, but I would still occasionally catch an episode of GL or Y&R. Now that I have Reagan to chase around all day long, it's been ages since I have watched any soaps. I can't believe GL is leaving the air! I will certainly have to start DVRing so that I can see how it all ends.

Madder than a Wet Hen

Sunday afternoon, I went to the grocery store, came home, left the car unlocked for hubs to get the groceries out (hey, I buy, he puts them up) and I forgot to lock the car back . Monday morning, I get into the car and everything has been pulled out of the glove compartment, middle console and backseat pockets. Unfortunately, the little guy left his Nintendo DS Lite in the back because he was playing it at the yard sale this weekend. It's the only thing of value I left in the car and they got it. It just makes me so mad. Now I feel like an idiot - I haven't reported it to the police yet because I don't want a lecture about locking my car doors at night - I know I'm supposed to, just forgot!!!! Hubs is now obsessed with catching the criminals, sleeping with one eye open at night . I'd heard that the economy has caused more crime, but why did they have to steal from us, from my little guy?

The Power of Prayer

I wanted to update on a previous post about my uncle ( you can read it here ). In September, he was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. He has undergone numerous rounds of chemo and radiation and received results back from his latest PET scan this Monday. Of chief concern was the tumor in the lower lobe of the right lung and the lymph nodes in the center of his chest. The scan showed that there was NO cancer activity in the lymph nodes! All in all, it was a great report! My aunt and uncle, with their grandkids. My prayer list is long for friends and family members struggling with disease and lately, I hear of so many children struggling as well. It's so hard not to question God during these times, but to put complete faith in him - which is much easier said than done! Isaiah 40:31 But they that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall take wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Pretty Women

I think I've seen the movie Pretty Woman about 100 times and it will always be my favorite. My husband thinks it's the cheesiest movie he has ever seen, but hey, he's not the target audience. So, my tour of Rodeo Dr started at the Reg Bev Will (Pretty Woman fans, you know what I'm talking about). Walking through it, the lobby looked so much smaller than in the movie. We ended up at the back entrance, and plopped down on a bench and acted like we owned the place for a bit while watching for anyone famous. We saw numerous $100 thousand+ cars, and one chick with long blonde hair (only from the back) that had to be famous, but we didn't see her face. Then, we walked down Rodeo, into a couple of stores that I couldn't afford to buy a keychain in, tried on a $1,200 pair of shoes, and walked right into a celebrity sighting. One of my goals while in LA was to see someone famous. And, she may not be on the A-list, but it was still pretty cool. Meet the beautiful Cam
