Happy Birthday Barbara Millicent Roberts

Today is Barbara Millicent Roberts' (AKA Barbie) 50th birthday.

Oh how I wanted Barbie's life when I was a little girl. She had the best clothes, the coolest cars and accessories to die for. She could be anything she wanted to be and had the great guy to match her lifestyle.

I used to spend hours playing with my Barbies in the basement. I also used to spend hours looking at the little packages of clothing in their bright pink boxes picking out just the right new outfit for Barbie when my mom said I could get one (see picture at right, I had this outfit). Somewhere in my mom's basement is still a box of about 30 Barbies dressed up, hair brushed and waiting to be played with again.

I remember the best Christmas I ever had was when Santa brought me my Barbie dream home. I used to arrange and re-arrange the furniture and decor it in over and over again, until eventually the plastic pieces broke and the felt furniture covers no longer stuck.

My favorite Barbie was dressed in a white dress with little red hearts all over her. I wish I could remember her name.

Did you play with Barbies?
Do you have a favorite Barbie memory?

  1. I played with Barbies for hours too, just like you! A local lady made gorgeous Barbie clothes so my dolls had fine and fancy ball gowns, coats, and dresses. I never got the Barbie Dream Car, but do you remember the inflatable Barbie furniture? I thought that was so cool. Happy Birthday Barbie!

  3. I LOVED playing with Barbies as a kid!! I'm pretty sure I had the same Barbie you are envisioning too... she had a little thingie on her back that you pressed and she made "kissy" sounds. :-)

    Happy Birthday, Barbie!

  4. I used to have an ongoing story with my Barbies. I would "pause" the game when I had to stop playing and then pick it up again the next time I played. It was sort of like a Barbie soap opera but it was so much fun!

  5. I had an entire.barbie.room. I was what you could call "obsessed" - hey a Barbie room isn't as scary as Madame Alexander room a la Tori Spelling with 100's of human-like eyes staring at you!

  10. I, too, was consumed by Barbies. I got all my cousins hand-me-downs and luckily she was spoiled so I got the dream house, a few cars, a townhouse, some clothes. All the tiny foods and perfume bottles were my favorite part about the dream house. Have you seen what they call the "dream house" today? It blows!

  11. I loved Barbie as a little girl. I had the dream house & the same dress you're talking about with the red hearts. Was it the valentine's barbie or something?
    Here's the dress.. http://buffalogal.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=3752644

One of the things I love about having a daughter is sharing Barbies with her. She's only 3 & already can sit for hours & play.

  12. As a mother I loved Barbie (she could BE anything and Ken or GI Joe was just an ACCESSORY!) My daughter had the Malibu house, convertible, all of the clothes, etc. Darling Daughter (who is now a young adult and a child psychologist and NOT spoiled) was my real life Barbie Doll. I loved buying her beautiful clothes (I still love it) and when she was 16 we gave her a convertible just like Barbie. She was an honor student, a cheerleader in high school and college and never gave us one minute of trouble....Now, our only daughter is married and has a baby daughter and we are blessed to be able to do it all over again.....I love your blog!

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
