To the Other Woman

I hope you enjoy your Christmas this year because this will be the first time in 33 years my dad will not be with his kids on Christmas morning. I suppose he'll be spending it with you and your family, instead of sitting comfortably in his recliner, in his home, wrapped in his robe, quietly observing the Christmas chaos around him.

He won't be there to find the Phillips screwdriver to open the toys or run downstairs to search for the right size batteries. He won't be there to sneak in the refrigerator to grab a candy strawberry from the bowl or eat all the sausage balls right from the baking sheet. Instead we will fit in some time to visit him at his new house, conduct the gift exchange and try not to notice the awkwardness in the room.

But you know what, that's OK, because we certainly got the best part of the deal - my mother. She is the most kind, patient, loving Christian woman anyone could ever know, and she's going to have a fabulous Christmas this year, even without her husband. She's getting extra presents under the tree and lots of love from her kids and grand kids, so much so that we'll all forget about the old traditions and start new ones.

So this Christmas, you may have my dad, but know that he is secretly wishing to be with his own kids and grand kids instead of with you.

Merry Christmas and happy new year.

I pray that you and your family are able to celebrate the holidays together focusing on the reason for the season, and that your Mother feels the love and support of you guys this year.

May God bless you, and I hope your father realizes all he has lost and how his choices affect those that care most for him.

  15. Oh gosh- so sorry. My parents were divorced when I was really little because he had an affair with my best friend's mother along with a multitude of other reasons. He never remarried but was very absent from our lives. EXCEPT on holidays, when he'd just SHOW UP ont he porch and knock on the door. For years my mom let him come in and be with us, but she eventually got fed up with his twice-yearly attempt to be part of our family. And every single year I would be sick to my stomach thinking he'd show up because I so dispised him thinking he should be included when he chose to be absent so much of the time. I hope things turn out OK for you all...it's hard when family stuff like this happens. And you're so right about your MOM! I love mine with all my heart.

  16. I'm sorry that your family has to go through this. If my father did something like that . . . I don't think he would ever hear from me again. For all the other woman knows, he might not even HAVE a family, but for a dad to choose that . . . wow.

Your mom is a tough cookie :)

  17. I am not sure you will get this. I don't know about blogs, but I applaud you for this letter. You have every right to say this to the "other woman" in my opinion.

You mom is a wonderful lady and did not deserve this treatment from your dad. I have known them both since around 1972 and your dad before then, and this happening was the furthest thing from my mind. It all shows that the "other woman" can have a great influence on someone if they put their mind to it.

Hope you and your family, esp, that sweet little Walker have a wonderful holiday and New Year.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
