I received the latest Pottery Barn catalogue last week and realized that I am in style. I often wonder, you know.
When I flipped through the pages of the overpriced decor that I can basically find at Target (my one true love), I saw this great pic of stairwell photos that reminded me of what I've been working on for the walls of my own stairwell.
I get more compliments on my stairway wall collection than any other item in my house. I've always been a fan of old photography and love looking at old pictures of my family. I took some old photo books from my mom's house and picked out my favorites and took them to the photo scanner at Target and blew them up to be the size I needed to match the frames I also bought at Target. I then arranged them on my wall starting with a big pic of my little man, hubby and me, then a selection of photos from my husband's family and my family.
I still stop to look at the pictures and try to think about my parents, grandparents, in-laws, etc., in those settings and I'm still adding to the collection as I come across fun pics in old drawers and photo books from both sides of our family. It's also fun to talk about them with little man - he loves seeing the old pics too - I think he's gonna have a bit of the artsy bug too. I can't count how many boxes of crayola markers I've bought for him...but that's for another day, another post.
so fun! are all of yours black and white?
ReplyDeletewe are going to do this in our hallway next weekend.
See...this just goes to show that the list HGTV recently put out of the biggest 25 design no-no's (which included displaying LOTS of family photos) just isn't very true. I love your photo display, and am actually thinking of doing the same thing up my stairway...or in my upstairs hall.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!!
ReplyDeleteAnd in response to HGTV, while that might be a Top 25 no-no when trying to SELL a house... who would want to LIVE in their own house with none of their own pictures? Throw that rule out!
i love walls of fame!
ReplyDeleteWow, you rock! I love it, I think I'm going to do something similar in our hallway (since we don't have a stairway anymore :))! It's looks great!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do this in my house, but it frightens me. I have no decorating sense at all!!
ReplyDeleteYours looks better than PB.
