Oh Hi There!

It's been more than four years since I started this blog, and since then I've picked up quite a few readers! In this season of Thanksgiving, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for reading my little old blog and for the sweet comments and e-mails I get from all over!

And if you're new here, I thought I'd take a little time and tell you about me and my life, something I haven't done in quite a while!

My name is Wendy. I grew up in a very small rural town in North Carolina, attended UNC-Chapel Hill and now I live in Durham, NC. I've been married for ten years to my husband Mike, who is the head teaching professional at a local private golf course. We have one human child - Walker - who is six and is pretty much the center of our universe, and we have two non-human children - Lucy (Golden Retriever) and Reese (Pound Kitty) - who pretty much are the most psychotic animals you'll ever have the opportunity to meet.

Yes, I'm mom to an only child and I love it. I absolutely love children, but I also love the balance I have with one child and working outside the home. It helps me keep a piece of me and not lose myself in mothering. When Walker was born I had a really rough go of it. He didn't sleep through the night until he was two and I had postpardum depression that made me feel like I was the worst mother in the world. But we only ever wanted to just have one child. It's not for everyone, but it works for us.

Walker is a sports nut, just like his dad. He loves football, basketball, soccer, golf, lacrosse and can scream at an NFL game on the TV with the best of them. He's all boy and loves shoes about as much as me. He's outgoing, funny, loud and super sweet.

My day job is managing the corporate marketing for a large company in the pharmaceutical industry. I handle the in-house design, corporate marketing campaigns and special projects. My job keeps me busy and is fun. I'm actually one of the lucky ones in that I really enjoy what I do. I can't say every day is perfect - of course, it's not - but I'm grateful.

I've recently found a church I absolutely love and I'm growing in my faith. There's still so much more work for me to do in this area and I'm hoping to share my journey with you all in the coming year.

I love DIY and home renovation. I've always got about five different projects going on and I'm always thinking of what I need to do next to make my house the perfect home for us. I've re-painted every room in our house since we moved in five years ago, replaced carpet twice, installed wood floors, replaced countertops, renovated bathrooms - and my list of projects is still growing! We talk about possibly moving in two years, but who knows. I've put a lot of love in this house and not sure if I can let it go!

I also do some freelance design work on the side, in my "free" time. I started this blog to keep in touch with relatives, document Walker's childhood and express my creativity. When I decided on a name, A Southern Accent just seemed appropriate since I do have such a strong accent. Sometimes I like my accent, sometimes I don't, but one thing I do love is living in the south!

So, that's a little about me! Just to see who's reading and call out the lurkers - will you leave a quick comment with your name and where you're from and introduce yourself? And it's really ok if you're not from the south. I don't bite.

  2. Hi Wendy! I found your blog a little while back, but life has gotten crazy and I lost track of you for awhile - but I just found you again and super happy about it!

I spent a little while in Williamsburg/ish Virginia, but I was raised in Buffalo. Right now, I have been living for the past three months in Istanbul, Turkey with my Turkish husband, but I am on my way back to the States to stay in a few weeks.

I could go on, but I will wrap it up there. Long story short - Virginia, divorce, disaster, remarriage, Turkey, and then who knows?? :) And I'm only 27. What a mess....

I hope you are well and I look forward to reading more from you!

  3. Hey Wendy!

I'm Lindsey and I was born and raised in a small town about 30 miles north of Dallas, Texas. A few months ago my husband and I moved to Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, for work. It's a big change for us country folks and we're still adjusting to the busy city life.

I love reading your blog! You are so creative and I've gotten so many home decorating ideas from your blog!

  7. Hi Wendy! I found your blog recently and I absolutely love it. I was born and raised in Central Arkansas. However, I lived in the Northeast for several years...and I lost my Southern accent. Currently, I am back in Little Rock working in interactive/social media marketing.

Thank you for sharing your world...with the world. Keep up the great work.

  11. Hey Wendy,

Found you quite some time ago. Love your southern charm .. so refreshing and real! Grew up in a small town in TN, but moved to metro Atlanta, GA over 20 years ago. I raised an only child (daughter) while working (residential/real estate closer in a law firm) and have no regrets.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
