Pastor Benji started a new series at our church this weekend called Man Up. It's about how to be a real man in this day and age and how the church has overly feminized Christianity.
And as he often does, he reminded us "this ain't ya momma's church".
I thought Pastor Benji was a rock-star already, but when he rode into church on a Harley Sunday morning, both Mike and I lit up. I swear sometimes it's like God is speaking right to Mike. He's never been super religious or anything and not too into church, but I've been trying for 15 years to get him passionate about it. The whole Harley thing is so crazy because Mike is a huge Harley fan. He used to have Harleys and even ruined his foot in a horrible crash back in the day. So God couldn't have picked a better earthly object to get his attention and say "Pay attention boy, I'm talking to you."
This sermon certainly isn't for the faint of heart, and maybe not everyone will agree with it, but if you've got a son, husband, father, they can certainly benefit from hearing this message. Click on the pic below to go to the video.

Wendy, what a great post. We have several friends at New Hope, but go to Good Shepherd. I met Benji at the Tim Keller speaking last month and knew he was a wonderful pastor, and different - the kind of good different that our society and modern christianity needs.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the sermon (your mom sent it) and thought it was great. I read some articles last year about how feminized the church had become (also referring to that pic of Jesus Benji showed)and some that referred to how feminized the music had become and wrote this blog http://carolannesark.blogspot.com/2010/09/worship-minus-warfare.html about it. Anyway, I have had the video open for Jamie to watch, but he hasn't gotten around to it yet. He should love the Gladiator movie reference. He can't understand why I think Braveheart is so much better - he thinks Gladiator is the best movie ever! I guess I'm just not a guy!
ReplyDeletelove this. thrilled I stumbled upon your blog. I'm following, I hope you will as well. I started my blog a little over 3 months ago after graduating from college in the south and moving across the country to LA. The site's all about celebrity fashion from the point of view of an LA stylist. I'd love if if you'd stop by to see multiple post a day on all the latest celebrity fashion news. Any support would be awesome. Thanks love. xoxo
