Taking the Train

Our trip to NYC was a sorta gift to Mike and Walker from me for Christmas. I've always wanted to go to the city around the holidays and wanted them to experience it as well.

One big obstacle was how we were going to get there. Both Mike and Walker do not like the idea of flying. I'll admit, I'm not too keen on it either, but I've had to do it with work enough that I've gotten used to it.

So with that option "flying out the door", we were left with two other options: driving or taking the train. I wasn't too excited about driving in the city and neither was Mike, so the train it was.

It was a ten hour trip, with several stops, which I wasn't too excited about experiencing with a five-year-old, I'll admit.

But we loaded up with our electronics, UNO cards (popular in our house right now), books and a snuggle blanket and it wasn't too bad.

For a trip that long, I'd certainly prefer to fly in the future, but it was certainly an experience and something new to try out. There were plugs at every seat, so our chargers were always working, plenty of leg room to move around and a cute little dining car and seating for when we got the munchies or just wanted different scenery.

The train dumped us right out in Penn Station, in the heart of the city, and it was a quick cab ride to our hotel. All-in-all, a great experience, and although longer than a plane ride, nowhere near the anxiety of flying with all of the security, baggage check measurements and restrictions.

  3. I took a trip on a train as a child and loved it. I wouldn't want to travel like that every time, but it really is an experience in itself. I'm sure Walker will never forget it.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
