My Haunted House: Halloween Decor

I decided to go a bit further than usual with the outdoor Halloween decor this year. More than just the normal punkins (as Walker calls them). Even Lucy got into the "spirit"! Doesn't she look possessed?

Mike thinks I'm possessed. I assured him that since it is October, it is OK for me to decorate for Halloween already. I tried not to go too overboard.

The corner pumpkin lots opened this weekend, so Walker and I spent about 30 minutes picking out the perfect pumpkins for the front steps. Of course, he wants to carve them all. I love the contrast of the white and orange pumpkins and really wanted more, but I stopped myself at 10.

My favorite part of the front is the happy orange light-up pumpkin I nestled into my honeysuckle vine, along with some orange flicker lights I picked up at Michael's this weekend.

I'll call this sophisticated spooky.

  1. Love it! I've been aching to get to a pumpkin patch to pick out a few, but haven't had the time yet!

  2. I love the white pumpkins!!

  3. I LOVE all your punkin stuff!!!! You did an awesome job. :)

  4. Oooh! I love it. Your dog does look somewhat like he belongs in Salem's Lot. lol

  5. Ah, man! It's already the 9th of October. I guess I'd better bookmark this blog and go get my Halloween decorations up...I suck!

  6. Your decor totally gets me in the Halloween mood... it's hard to feel "halloweeny" when its 85 degrees out! Love the white pumpkins too!

  7. LOVE "sophisticated spooky" :) Halloween gives us all permission to go overboard... pumpkins are cheap here in NC, anyway ;)

  8. My husband & I usually put on quite the Halloween decorating show and I'm missing that this year...
This was a real treat to see! Thanks for brightening my day with your Halloween spirit :)

  9. Looks good! Subtle and classic - not crazy at all.

If your husband thinks this is overboard, he would want to check me into a mental institution.

Come On Get Happi with Happikins™

One of my girlfriends is a fabulous entrepreneur with several successful businesses under her belt. Her most recent endeavor reaches past general consumerism and takes a creative and fun approach to the impact we make on the environment.

Meet Happikins: There are 18,760 pounds of unnecessary lunchtime waste generated by the average elementary school each year. Paper napkins contribute to this waste — and they're also a drain on expenses. Did you know most kids use $200 worth of paper napkins a year?
Happikins are reusable cloth napkins designed specifically for kids. They can even be used as place mats for children who have food allergies. Happikins™ are a fun and easy way to teach your child the importance of making smart environmental choices. Oh, and wiping the crud off the corners of their mouths. You can choose from 3 sets of Happikins:
Each set of Happikins comes with five napkins and a durable pouch that makes a nice home for the napkins and fits nicely in a lunchbox. You can ev…

December 30th

It's the quiet days that sometimes get to me. I just got off the phone with my mom. I told her I have cabin fever. She said, "You probably won't be someone who should retire."

I replied, "I don't ever plan to".

This year Christmas was a bit slower, a bit quieter than usual. Maybe because everyone is getting a bit older, there are no babies around to cry or wail, and my grandparents seemed so feeble. With my uncle's passing this year, Mike having to work the day after Christmas and my dad not around - such a significant absence of the male figures that had always been there over the holidays.

My mother had bronchitis, and my nephew the flu. Walker and I both ended up with awful colds that we're still trying to get over.

My parents were kind to one another, amicable and friendly.

The presents were plentiful and Santa exceeded expectations.

The three sons/cousins/grandsons were happy and hyper.

So much buildup, and it always goes by too fast. I'…

Baby Shower Inspiration Board: Sweet Little Things

It's been a while since I posted an inspiration board, so when I saw that Angie Harmon's friends threw her a candy-inspired baby shower this weekend, I thought it would be fun to come up with some ideas of what it may have looked like! Yummy!
