Home Projects: It Takes a Village

This weekend I was able to tackle some of the smaller projects I've been putting off around the house and I kinda feel like I'm making progress in all of my home projects vs. creating new ones for myself. I've vowed to not start another project until I've finished what's going on in my current house.

Of course, I can't do it all by myself, so I actually enlisted the help of some others instead of trying to tackle it all on my own (can't help it, I'm an overachiever when it comes to this stuff, or maybe I'm just a control freak??).

First, my dad came over and finally finished installing that new faucet in the upstairs bathroom I've been working on for like a year (the one that caused that lovely house flood a couple months back). We now have running water in our master bath. My husband is happy he no longer has to use my vanity area to shave (and so am I). He also determined that our non-working doorbell is an electrical problem, so I've still gotta hire someone to check that. I don't touch live wires (although I did electrocute Mike when I forced him to install a chandelier in Walker's nursery when I was pregnant).

Walker and I tackled painting a cute side table I picked up at the Habitat for Humanity Reuse Store in Chapel Hill for $10.00 a couple of weeks ago. I think I may have found a new love for spray paint. Who knew it could be so easy? And Walker loved helping. What was previously brown and faded is now a glossy, black, mod side table. I love the details on this piece.

Yesterday, the guys came to fix the hole in the ceiling from the aforementioned flood and I got them to paint the hall and stairway as well. This is the first time I've ever paid anyone to paint for me and let me just say I may now be spoiled for life. And I'm loving the new look it gives my entryway. I haven't put everything back on the walls yet, so I'll save that sneaky peak for another time, plus share the tips I learned from watching the pros paint!

So, maybe I can't do it all by myself and I need a little help from my friends (and family). But I'm sure I haven't learned my lesson quite yet.

  1. Isn't he such a cute little helper?! I love doing little furniture fix up projects. When I was living in San Fran my bro gave me free range to do what I wanted in the house. At least once a week I was bringing home something from the thrift store to redo. In my current home I am struggling to remember to do one project at a time as well. Currently redoing the spare bedroom so I can then do the master so then I can paint the bathroom. Eek!

Side note: LOVE your spooky header. So cute!

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
