Needing Mommie

My son Walker was invited to a party for his friend across the street who turned six this weekend. With a bouncy house and beautiful weather, it was a perfect day for a party.

It occured to me before the party that this may be my little guy's first drop off and leave event, but I wasn't sure. Once we arrived, it looked like some of the moms and dads were, in fact, leaving, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. My little guy still hasn't turned five yet, and most of the kids there were a little bit older but he was busy jumping in the bounce house, so I decided to walk back to the house to catch up on my to-do list.

About five minutes later, the mom across the street showed up on my front porch with Walker because he was looking for mommie. He wasn't in tears, but just wanted me there with him.

So, I guess he's not quite ready for drop-off-and-leave yet. Or maybe it's because I didn't tell him where I was going. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding if I should sneak off without him noticing, or say goodbye.

We walked back over and as long as I was in the range of his vision, he was good to go.
Guess he isn't too old for mommie yet.

This photo just makes me smile. The neighbors have a puppy from the same breeder we do, and she's not quite one year old. She was pooped after the party and plopped down under the table in the middle of everything and decided to take a nap.

  1. I always had a phobia about leaving mine at birthday parties because there are so many other kids to watch...

    Glad he still needs you:)

  2. I always said good-bye. I didn't know how to handle that and my pediatrician at that time told me it builds that trust when you say good-bye and tell them you'll be back! Just leaving is more worrisome to them than knowing that you've left and will be back.
I think it's great that you went back! I bet some of the other children are in kindergarten, so they are used to being without mommy. xoxo

  3. I can so relate...we're almost at that 4 1/2 year old stage and it's touch and go with whether or not he wants mom or not. Adam actually did have a drop n' go party at a nature center for one of his school friends. Everyone attending was school friends and some school "teachers" so I felt fairly certain he'd be OK. But, just to make sure, my husband dropped him off {'cause he loves dad but doesn't pine for him} and I picked him up. The following Monday it became clear how many of the moms had the same dad/drop plan and we were all laughing about it.

  7. So cute. I'm still in that stage with our 4 yr. old. Do you tell them you are leaving? will they want you to stay? Hard, but eventually it will get easier. The photos are great. My favorite is the one on the hammock. It almost looks like it could go in a catalog or magazine!

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
