Night Out: LabourLove Art Gallery

LabourLove Art Gallery Golden Belt Durham
My wonderfully creative friend Molly (of Happikins fame) invited me to a girl's night out at the LabourLove Art Gallery in downtown Durham Saturday night.

I arrived around 6:45 and got to tour some of the artist studios located in the area, and I felt all artsy and chill and big-city like. We received a mix-media art lesson from the gallery owner, Kelly Dew, and learned how she uses scraps of patterned paper to create these beautiful paintings. Then we were let loose to attempt our own "masterpieces" of birds and insects.

Kelly has a southern accent, a two-year old, and decided in 2009 (year of the recession), along with her husband, to start this art gallery. She's super talented, and laid back. She offers art lessons for kids on Saturday, and I'm definitely going to sign the little man up for classes ASAP.

I'm just so excited about getting back into art and can't wait for the next night out at the gallery!! I'm hoping Kelly will start having them at least once a month - or at least once a quarter!! About all I get to paint these days is the molding in my house after the dog, the hubs or the kid has scuffed it up.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
