Back Talk

The little man has gotten quite brave with his back talk lately. He seems to be picking this interesting habit up from school-mates, cousins, his father, etc. Some of the more popular ones I'm hearing these days:

  • I don't care.
  • Blah, blah, blah. (He says his cousin taught him this one)
  • You guys are soooo silly.
  • You are weird mommie.
  • I don't care, I don't care, I don't care, I don't care.

A co-worker of mine once gave me some great parenting advice. She said the only time she ever spanked her children was when they made a choice that would harm them (i.e., running out into the road). Whenever her kids said something inappropriate or rude, she would actually wash their mouth out with soap.

I'm seriously considering it. I even threatened it tonight.
His response? "You're weird mommie. Blah, blah, blah."

My often angel is, at times, my little monster...

  1. I will speak for myself only, but my kids are paying me back for when I was a sassy little girl! Oh, I got the mouth washed out with soap treatment, way more than once too! I was slow to learn... Gosh, I can still remember the taste!

  2. He's such a cutie. But I can see how the talking back could get old... Once my 5 yr old son wanted to go out to dinner instead of eating at home and I said "No, because we don't have time" and he exploded "That's a disgusting reason!" Ha!

  3. I was a sassy, temper-tantrum thrower in my formative years, my parents employed the "spank only when she's lying" rule. As a result, I'm an awful liar (in that I'm bad at it, not that I do so often), but it didn't do much for the sass or the temper.

Will be interested to see how you address this!

  8. It's amazing how much they pick up from school and friend (and mom and dad!). My little guy says "No" to almost everything I ask him to do and when he launches into some sort ofr back-talk phrase the last two words or so are under his breath because the mommey evil eye has already begun to glare.

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
