Getting Fresh

I love getting up on Saturday mornings, skipping breakfast, and heading to the Durham Farmer's Market. I usually hightail it first to Angels Nest Bakery. The little guy loves their fresh cinnamon rolls (see pic) and I love their cream cheese braids, which typically go very fast. I also try to pick up some fresh tomatoes from Sunny Slope Farms and fresh mozzarella from Chapel Hill Creamery for a yummy salad with a little olive oil and basil. Yummy!

Then, we grab a cup of mint tea or strawberry lemonade and head over to the turtle to eat our breakfast. I hit the loop one more time to pick anything else up that looks yummy and once my cash is gone and my bag is full, we head home!

One of the local farmers has started a home delivery service and they deliver fresh fruits and veggies to your front porch weekly! How cool is that? I've signed up for it, but there is a wait list. You just get what they leave you and you get to be creative with recipes and figuring out what to do with your goodies! Anyone currently doing this and how do you like it?

  1. What a neat idea! I have never heard of that before! Probably wouldn't work for us...since the hubs detests veggies...but it sounds wonderful :)

  2. What a neat idea! We have food coops around here where you join and get to go pick up stuff bi-weekly, but none that I know of that drop it off. What a neat suprise you'd have weekly!

  4. Home delivery sounds great but I'd probably be too picky to enjoy it all. Our local farmer's market should be starting here soon AND "The Amish Man" should be back with the fruits of his labors in a couple weeks... I'll be checking them out for sure.

Love the picture of the veggies in baskets... so pretty!

  5. When I was living in SF they were a number of farm who did that. Many times a group gets together to do it. It is really fun but sometimes it is frustrating if you want a certain veggie and you don't get it so you have to go buy it anyway.

  13. I really enjoyed reading some of the posts in your blog...and I really enjoy our local farmers' market as well. Unfortunately, their basket deliveries aren't available where I live. Oh, well! At least, I get to enjoy the fruits of their labors anyway. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Love it! Also love how you made the pics look so pretty. We have a farmer's market in our neighborhood now. When you come for supper, we can have the kids make their own market bags.

    Talk soon,

  15. I have organic fruits and veggies delivered every two weeks, and it is mostly potluck. They do have a list of things we never want, but I get pretty creative with veggies. Just know you can cook pretty much anything in olive oil as a side dish or bake it with chicken!

Happy Pills

I'm a crazy person. At least, that's what I feel like some times. And it runs in my family. No, not really crazy (and don't take offense if you are one of me), but just clinically depressed and filled with anxiety. It's as if I don't have something to worry about in my head constantly, then I don't feel normal. Luckily, there's a pill for that. It's a bitter pill, one that I'll basically have to take the rest of my life, but I've slowly accepted that it's like any other disease, and just like diabetes or heart disease, that little pill is gonna make me better. But that little pill makes me gain weight, gives me the brain shivers when I miss it, and although I've tried to get off it multiple times, I just can't. So I guess that makes me an addict as well. But it's a pill that my grandparents and family didn't always have, and they suffer from it as well, so I should be thankful for this little red capsule of happiness...
