My Sister, My Friend

I've just booked flights for my sister and myself to Vegas!! I'm heading to sin city for several days the end of January and I decided to take my sister along with me for her 40th birthday! We are staying at the Red Rock Resort and Spa for three nights and she's never been, so it's gonna be a blast! I always wanted to do something like this with my sis, but we've never been able to pull it together, but she deserves it (even though I did hear her mumble after our big Christmas blow-up that she didn't want to go anywhere with me...I know, it was just the emotions talking).

My sister "despised" me when I was born. She was six and had everyone's attention for quite a long time before I came around. My mom said once, right after I was born, she remembers my sis throwing herself across the bed crying because she thought no one cared about her anymore.

My sister and I are very different, but when we sit down to talk we can go on for hours. There's something about having the connection of a past that will always be there. With everything we've been through the past year, it's brought us closer, because we are the only ones that can truly relate to what the other is feeling about our family and our parents.

Anyway, here's to my big sis, from your younger, but taller sis. Thanks for putting together my outfit for my first school dance from your closet of cooler teenage clothes; thanks for teaching me how to wear makeup; thanks for accepting me as the annoying 10-year old when you were sixteen; thanks for making me an aunt to two great boys.

Thanks for the unconditional love we have! Mwahhhh!!!!!!!

  5. Have a great time in Vegas. I only had brothers and so longed for a sister, so when I had my first daughter I was thrilled when I had a second -- and envy the incredible bond they have (well, they usually have a bond when they're not @##$ at each other!!!)

  6. Y'all are going to have so much fun! I have two big sisters. My middle sister hated me when I was born. She is five years older. We fought like cats and dogs until she moved away to college, then we became best friends.

  7. Aw, my sister is 7 years younger, and I had to share a room with her for several years. Then, my dad passed away when we were pretty young so I became her guardian and didn't always love it. lol. But, she is my best friend. She's only 19, but she somehow got in everywhere at my bachelorette party and we had so much fun. I so look forward to trips like this in the future. You're going to have a blast!!!

Happy Pills

I'm a crazy person. At least, that's what I feel like some times. And it runs in my family. No, not really crazy (and don't take offense if you are one of me), but just clinically depressed and filled with anxiety. It's as if I don't have something to worry about in my head constantly, then I don't feel normal. Luckily, there's a pill for that. It's a bitter pill, one that I'll basically have to take the rest of my life, but I've slowly accepted that it's like any other disease, and just like diabetes or heart disease, that little pill is gonna make me better. But that little pill makes me gain weight, gives me the brain shivers when I miss it, and although I've tried to get off it multiple times, I just can't. So I guess that makes me an addict as well. But it's a pill that my grandparents and family didn't always have, and they suffer from it as well, so I should be thankful for this little red capsule of happiness...
