Peace, Joy and Candy Canes

Christmas cards are officially OUT!!! I finally dropped them off at the post office after standing in line for about 30 minutes to get stamps!!

A little about the history of Christmas cards, in case you didn't know...I used to work for a British company, so this was explained to me because every year we would spend hours perfecting our company Christmas card as to not offend anyone and include everyone.

Christmas cards originated in England over 150 years ago. They were mostly sent by the elite and wealthy. I was told that Christmas cards are a BIG DEAL in England and if you didn't receive one from a friend or business associate then some people would get extremely offended. I think we mostly do it here as an extra something special.

This year I've received several SmileBox greetings from friends trying to do something good for the environment, save money or simply ran out of time! They are really cute, but this is about the ONLY time of the year I run to the mailbox to see what I've received because I love a Christmas card, so I think I'll stick to the old-fashioned version.

  6. I agree with you - I love the "old fashioned" "non-green" method of sending printed cards via snail mail. I was just commenting to my husband last night about the slim amount of cards we've received this year and we both think people have perhaps nixed cards in an effort to cut back and save money. We also both agree that we'd nix some other stuff first in lieu of sending cards. I revel in the joy of getting the pictures made, designing the card (this year I used green cards with chocolate brown ink) and hand-writing each address and note.

  7. To me, virtual cards versus Christmas cards sent by mail is analogous to a gracious email versus a hand-written thank-you note ... the former just really doesn't hold a candle to the latter.
This year, however, I was mindful to select a card that could easily be recycled.

Love your blog, Southern! Can't remember how I got here, but I'll definitely be back!

Star Wars Gift Bag Tags

Two years ago, for Walker's Star Wars birthday, I created Yoda tags to attach to the gift bags for the party. Little did I know these bag tags would become so popular on Pinterest! To date, these tags have been repinned almost 500 times!!! So I thought since there's so much interest, I'd add them to my Etsy shop . So now, for just $8.00 - you can receive the file electronically and print them for yourself! I jazzed them up a bit with some sliver glitter puff paint on the light saber and some silver ribbon to attach to the dollar store bags. Print as many or as few as you want! So, if you are planning a Star Wars party, check them out ! And may the force be with you!

Baby Shower Inspiration Boards

I got all excited about the baby shower inspiration board contest over at Sippycups Are for Chardonnay , but only ended up submitting this first one on time. I managed to pull the second together this weekend just for kicks and loved the colors, so thought I'd share here. The first board is call "Nesting Instincts" and the second is "Over the Rainbow". I think I could get addicted to creating these things.
