My hubby and I (see right) are celebrating our seventh anniversary this Monday and I know there are a lot of newlywed/engaged bloggers out there, so thought I’d pass along some marriage advice that I try to keep in my head and in my house.

  • The secret to a happy marriage is two TV's (no seriously, it's true)
  • Communication is the key
  • Never compare your marriage to others

  • Accept that both of you are imperfect
  • Love your husband, but do not wrap yourself up in your husband
  • Life will get stressful. It always does. Commit to making time to do fun things together.
  • My generation (and I think many girls) were/are raised to think that marriage is supposed to be this prince charming, whisk me away into happily ever after event, but I think it’s not that simple and extremely unrealistic. But before I get push back from that, I offer this disclaimer: I know there are some out there that may be lucky enough not to have to work at it, but most of us do!

Remember, there’s no such thing as the perfect marriage and it takes a lot of work to make it! Just because you have to work at it doesn't mean it wasn't meant to be or any of that crap. One of the best book’s I’ve ever read about love and marriage is Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff in Love. It gives some great, basic ideas about how to keep it together!

    Happy Pills

I'm a crazy person. At least, that's what I feel like some times. And it runs in my family. No, not really crazy (and don't take offense if you are one of me), but just clinically depressed and filled with anxiety. It's as if I don't have something to worry about in my head constantly, then I don't feel normal. Luckily, there's a pill for that. It's a bitter pill, one that I'll basically have to take the rest of my life, but I've slowly accepted that it's like any other disease, and just like diabetes or heart disease, that little pill is gonna make me better. But that little pill makes me gain weight, gives me the brain shivers when I miss it, and although I've tried to get off it multiple times, I just can't. So I guess that makes me an addict as well. But it's a pill that my grandparents and family didn't always have, and they suffer from it as well, so I should be thankful for this little red capsule of happiness...
