True Blood

(No, this isn't about Edward Cullen, Sookie Stackhouse or the Vampire Diaries.)

I'm giving blood today at work and just thought I'd take a quick chance to remind others out there to do it too. It's pretty painless and they give you lots of great snacks and goodies afterwards.

According to the American Red Cross website:
  • Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood.

  • 5 million people who receive blood transfusions every year, your donation can make the difference between life and death.

  • Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood

  • You will weigh less — one pint less when you leave than when you came in. (YES!!!)

  • Nobody can ask you to do any heavy lifting as long as you have the bandage on. (Yippee - no laundry tonight!)

  • You will be someone's hero — you may give a newborn, a child, a mother or a father, a brother, or a sister another chance at life. In fact, you may help save up to three lives with just one donation.

So, think about the benefits and don't be scared to give blood. And, contrary to some of the vampire stories out there, there is no substitute for human blood.

  1. I used to donate blood all the time in high school, but because of a travel restriction from a while back I can't do it again until next year... but then I totally plan to! Such a great cause!

  2. We have a very strong office tradition of everyone donating. However, I lived in the UK during mad cow so apparently I'm not allowed to give. Boo! I want to help and I want the yummy cookies!

Glad to hear that you're giving. Have a great day!

Happy Pills

I'm a crazy person. At least, that's what I feel like some times. And it runs in my family. No, not really crazy (and don't take offense if you are one of me), but just clinically depressed and filled with anxiety. It's as if I don't have something to worry about in my head constantly, then I don't feel normal. Luckily, there's a pill for that. It's a bitter pill, one that I'll basically have to take the rest of my life, but I've slowly accepted that it's like any other disease, and just like diabetes or heart disease, that little pill is gonna make me better. But that little pill makes me gain weight, gives me the brain shivers when I miss it, and although I've tried to get off it multiple times, I just can't. So I guess that makes me an addict as well. But it's a pill that my grandparents and family didn't always have, and they suffer from it as well, so I should be thankful for this little red capsule of happiness...
